A recession can be brutal for many people, as job loss and salary cuts are expected. But there are still ways to make money during a recession, even if they require creativity and hard work. Here are a few ideas that an everyday person can try:

1    Sell items you no longer need: Look around your house, and you may be surprised at how many things you no longer need or use. Sell them online on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay. You can also have a garage sale or take items to a consignment store.

2    Offer your skills: If you have a skill that others may need, like gardening, cleaning, handyperson work, writing articles, maintaining people’s social media, or being a virtual assistant, consider offering your services as a freelancer. There are so many types of freelance type jobs you can make money on. You can advertise your services on social media or even put up flyers in your local community. There are sites like upwork.com, freelancer.com, fiverr.com, toptal.com, jooble.com, and many more.

3    Drive for a ride-sharing service: If you have a car and some free time, consider driving for a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft. This can be a flexible way to make extra money on the side.

4    Take on a part-time job: Even if you’re employed full-time, consider taking on a part-time job to bring in extra money. Many retailers and restaurants are always looking for part-time help, and you can often find job listings online.

5    Get creative: Sometimes, thinking outside the box is the best way to make money during a recession. Consider starting a small business, like a home-based bakery or a dog-walking service. You never know what might take off.

6    Be resourceful: Don’t be afraid to ask for help or look for resources to help you during this time. Look for government programs, such as unemployment benefits, job training programs, and small business loans. Also, look for non-profit organizations that might provide assistance or advice.

Remember, making money during a recession may require more effort and creativity, but opportunities are still available. Stay positive and keep an open mind; you never know what opportunities may arise.
